The UC Davis Vision: The Campus’ Strategic Plan

The UC Davis Vision is a strategic plan for the campus. It brings together in one place the collective vision of faculty, staff, and students about the defining features of our future as a university community. It states our mission or purpose as a campus, defines our aspirations for the future by setting specific goals, and articulates strategies for achieving those goals. The plan will guide the allocation of campus resources. In particular, the plan will guide development efforts as we seek the resources necessary to reach our goals.

2. How was the UC Davis Vision developed?

The strategic plan is founded on principles derived from previous UC Davis planning efforts and recorded in documents such as the Academic Plan, the Principles of Community, and the Statement of Educational Objectives. The campus community was invited to provide input on the plan through two rounds of revision. Advice was sought and received from various constituent groups and from committees that represent the campus's academic and administrative units. Suggestions received during this consultation process were incorporated into the final document.

3. How will the UC Davis Vision make a difference in the life of the campus?

The strategic plan is a tangible reminder of our vision of the future. It is designed to help focus our current efforts and give priority to the actions most necessary for achievement of our goals. The plan outlines a few general strategies for reaching our goals. A dean and a senior administrator are assigned to each strategy as "implementation coordinators." Their job is to monitor and encourage the employment of that strategy. The plan proposes indicators of achievement for each strategy. These performance measures will help us answer the question, "How well are we doing?" The indicators of achievement will be tracked regularly so that the campus can assess progress toward its goals.

4. What role can I play in implementing the UC Davis Vision?

Every member of the campus community will play a role in implementing the strategic plan. There are a number of ways for individual members of the campus community to get involved. Read the plan carefully and consider how it may relate to your own work. Look for opportunities to collaborate with coworkers on local efforts to implement the plan. The plan is sufficiently broad in scope that, schools, colleges, and other units may develop their own unit goals and performance indicators to complement the campus goals.
